A man once came to see me because he was still suffering\nfrom continence problems after undergoing prostate surgery, even though his\ndoctors had told him that there was no longer any organic cause for his\nincontinence. During his third therapy session, he told me that he had recently\ncried for the first time in years when a doctor told him that all of his\nsymptoms were perfectly normal, and that he would in all likelihood become\ncontinent again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHave you ever heard of a conversion symptom?\u201d I asked\nhim. \u201cMaybe your excretion organs are incontinent because your eyes are\ncontinent. Your bladder has taken on the role of your eyes or vice versa,\ndepending on your point of view. I wouldn\u2019t be at all surprised if you became\nincontinent in an unexpected way in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
