Alternatively, a child can be asked to name his or her favourite\nanimal, and the story can be turned into one about a zoo owner or breeder who\nsucceeds in finding a way to raise this animal in particularly difficult\nconditions despite all the doom-mongering of his critics, so that it grows up\nhealthy and happy, is admired by many and later becomes the mother or father of\nwonderful young animals. The story can also be used to boost the morale of\npatients during long hospital stays, for example while undergoing chemotherapy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have some very large terracotta pots on my balcony, and I decided that I\u2019d like to plant roses in them. \u201cYou can\u2019t grow roses in pots \u2013 they\u2019ll die,\u201d said my father. \u201cThat\u2019s a shame,\u201d I said, but I couldn\u2019t get the idea out of my head, and so I visited a plant nursery. \u201cYou can\u2019t grow roses in pots, at any rate not outdoors,\u201d said the sales assistant. \u201cThey\u2019ll freeze to death in winter because the whole root ball is surrounded by frost.\u201d \u201cCan\u2019t you bring them inside over the winter?\u201d I asked. \u201cThey don\u2019t like being moved around,\u201d said the sales assistant. \u201cTake it from me, you can\u2019t grow roses outdoors in pots.\u201d Then one of the gardeners who worked at the nursery entered the showroom. \u201cOf course you can,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s a special variety of rose which doesn\u2019t mind frost at all. It looks a lot like a beautiful wild rose, and it isn\u2019t damaged by the weather at all. It can also be grown in a small space, even in a large terracotta pot on a balcony. It matures well, and its scent is exquisite.
